The life of a Realtor® involves many hours in the car, driving potential buyers from property to property, to find the perfect home.

On April 5, Allen Tate Realtors and professional staff spent the day driving in a new direction, at the company’s 2016 Spring Convention – Driving Success.

The annual event, held at the Charlotte Convention Center, attracted more than 900 agents and staff from the Charlotte, Triad, Triangle and Upstate S.C. regions who convened for a day of education, inspiration and networking.

Former CBS News anchor Michelle Gielan shared her expertise as a positive psychology researcher for the convention’s keynote address, Broadcasting Happiness: Driving Success through Positive Engagement. Other featured speakers included social media guru Katie Lance, body language expert Blanca Cobb and generational humorist Tim Moore. Attendees chose from 18 professional development and training sessions during four breakouts.

A special panel discussion by six members of the Allen Tate Legends Club was held during the lunch program. The Legends Club honors Allen Tate agents with the highest career sales volume. Panelists included Marlyn Jamison, Andy Bovender, Diane Honeycutt, Cathy Staskel, Sheri Stinecipher and Diane Thompson.

Contemporary violinist Daniel D. and The Voice finalist Beth Spangler entertained the crowd, as the company recognized the importance of the arts in a community.

“Today is one of those perfect real estate days when we block out the noise, put the top down, let the breeze blow – and simply soak up the good stuff,” said Pat Riley, Allen Tate Companies president and CEO.

Riley offered tips for things to “put the brakes on” including fearing change, criticizing and being right, and those to “press the gas pedal on” including showing gratitude, celebrating others and giving back to the community.

Three lucky agents went home with special prizes, as winners of the Shift into High Gear contest. Agents received entries into the contest based on business activities and referrals during the first quarter. Stanley Jones won one-year lease on a Lexus ES 350 sedan. Carol Milligan won a David Yurman pendant, and Wendy Sloan won a Carolina Panthers tailgate package with suite tickets.

Convention-goers wrapped up the day with an after-party at Whisky River featuring recording artists Norlina, sponsored by MetLife and Progressive.

“Convention day is always one of my favorites, and this one was no exception,” said Riley. “Our agents left fueled up and ready to accelerate their careers.”
